Grissom wins Yellow Jacket Invitational

GLENCOE — Grissom’s Sarah Robertson edged Scottsboro’s Kylie Tucker at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Silver Lakes to win the Glencoe High School Yellow Jacket Invitational on Thursday.
Robertson fired a 10-over 82, just one better than Tucker’s 83.
Robertson stayed consistent throughout her round with 10 pars. She also led Grissom to the team championship, as the top three Tigers carded a 286. Scottsboro was second with a 289 and Glencoe’s 295 was good enough for third. Westbrook Christian finished fourth with a 296.
Despite beautiful sunny conditions on the Heartbreaker and Mindbreaker courses, golfers found the scoring tough. Of the more than 50 golfers who participated in the event, only seven broke 100 on their round.
Glencoe’s Hope Bishop and Madison Cole tied for third with 92s. Westbrook Christian’s Ella Lawley and Ali Porter both carded 96s, and Scottsboro’s Colleen Skelton finished with a 97.
Fairview’s Abbi Yeager was eighth with a 100, Grissom’s McKenizie Turner followed with a 101 and Arab’s Cati Harris rounded out the top 10 with a 102.
Taleigh Broach had a 103 for Grissom. Southside’s Ashley McCormick and Westbrook Christian’s Katie Cone both had 104s, with Westbrook Christian’s Hope Cone following with a 105.
Another Westbrook player, April Godsey, had a 107. Scottsboro’s Julia Webb finished with a 109, Glencoe’s Madison Autwell carded a 111, while Arab’s Kayla James and Grissom’s Gracie Marks went for 112s.
Christian Riddlespur, playing in the tournament as an individual for Etowah, had a 113, as did Saks’ Caitlyn Shelly and Scottsboro’s Mary Margaret Green.
Piedmont’s Kinsey Martin and Fort Payne’s Elle Patterson both carded 114s, Westbrook Christian’s Sydney Fairchild fired a 117, while Brae Buckner, of Southside, had 121.
Arab’s Alix Edmonds had a 122, Westbrook Christian’s Eillie Porter had a 123, while both Fairview’s Maci Yeager and Fort Payne’s Allie Locklear both had a 126.
Arab’s Kaitlyn Embry had a 127, and Jacksonville’s Caroline Peevy finished with a 130.
