Coosa picks Clifton as new head coach

Cedar Bluff assistant coach Scott Clifton was selected as Coosa Christian’s new football coach Thursday.

Clifton replaces Van Owens, The Gadsden Times’ 2012 Coach of the Year, who left in January to take a teaching position at Hewitt-Trussville. Clifton was the Tigers’ defensive coordinator in 2012, leading a unit that allowed 14.2 points per game and recorded two shutouts.

Owens left after guiding the Conquerors to a 7-13 record in two seasons, including a 4-6 record in 2012 after an 0-6 start.
