Wood, Etowah top Cherokee County


ATTALLA — The Etowah baseball team continued its strong start to the season Monday, edging Cherokee County 2-1 on a walkoff hit by Braxton Wood.

With the game tied at one in the seventh, Wood hit an RBI single to score Paul Ruiz from second base for the game-winner. Etowah (7-0) scored its first run in the sixth inning on Josh Bobo’s sacrifice fly, which scored Tanner Putman.

Cherokee County had taken a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Wade Griffith singled

home Tanner Johnson, who had doubled.

Etowah’s junior varsity team also won, knocking off the Warriors 6-1.

The Blue Devils hosts Gadsden City today.
