The Glencoe boys basketball team knocked off Gaston 60-36 Monday evening in the first round of the Etowah County basketball tournament.
The Yellow Jackets (14-6) are going for their third straight county title at Beck Field House on the campus of Gadsden State, and they found little resistance in starting their title defense against the Bulldogs (4-14).
Glencoe jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, taking a 17-7 advantage into the second and 27-14 lead at halftime. The Yellow Jackets led 40-28 at the end of the third.
Anthony Morris led the way, scoring 20 points for the Yellow Jackets. Scott Bradley had 10 points, Austin Hancock scored nine points and Dillon Tidmore added eight points.
For Gaston, Javonte Pope scored 14 points. Albert Douglas and Jordan Douglas both scored eight points.
Glencoe advanced to play in Wednesday’s semifinals against Southside, the tournament’s No. 1 seed.
