Glencoe girls rout Westbrook 62-30

RAINBOW CITY — The Glencoe girls basketball team used a suffocating defense and balanced scoring attack to pick up a 62-30 win over Westbrook Christian on Monday night.
Glencoe (2-1) was relentless in its full-court pressure, forcing several steals and 10-second violations. Laura Poovey, who scored 12 points, had five steals.
The full-court press allowed Glencoe to get out to a 36-19 lead at halftime, and by the time it started setting up its halfcourt defense in the third, it led 54-30.
Thirteen of the 15 Glencoe players who saw playing time scored. Sarah Wallace had 12 points, while Jessica Rathje added nine points. Maddie Osborne came off the bench to score five points, while Hope Gaskin, Brennan Ingram, Jordan Sivley and Jordan Sims each added four points. Karly Royal had six assists, while Sims added a team-high four rebounds.
For Westbrook (0-2), Lorien Welch scored a team-high 12 points. Abby Lockridge went for eight points, while Kenedy Vice had six points.
Glencoe plays at Southside on Monday.
