KIM CRAFT: Titan, Panthers win Week 3 online polls

A Titan and a group of Panthers beat the competition for the top spots in of The Gadsden Times’ online player and team of the week polls for performances during Week 3 of the 2012 high school football season.
Gadsden City’s Rashad Carter took 42 percent of 545 votes cast at gtpreps.com to win the online player of the week poll ahead of runner-up Levi Morgan from Spring Garden. Morgan got 24 percent of the vote in taking second ahead of Sardis’ Toby Pee, Fort Payne’s Luke Jennings and Geraldine’s Michael Davis.
Carter scored the Titans’ game-winning touchdown after picking up a fumble and returning it 65 yards for a score in Gadsden City’s 28-21 win over Class 6A, Region 7 rival then-No. 8 Oxford in The Gadsden Times’ Game of the Week.
Morgan rushed for 182 yards and three touchdowns in the Wildcats 40-22 win over Valley Head. Pee ran 163 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries in Sardis’ 45-7 win over Crossville.
Jennings scored four touchdowns — three rushing and another on the opening kickoff of the second half — to help Fort Payne defeat Arab 51-21.
Davis ran for three touchdowns and returned a kick 95 yards for another score in Geraldine’s 55-24 win over Brindlee Mountain.
Southside repeated as the online team of the week winner for the third straight time. The Panthers claimed 47 percent of 2,200 votes cast to edge Piedmont, which garnered 961 votes for 44 percent, to finish ahead of Etowah, Gadsden City and Sardis
The Panthers are on a roll, having started the season 3-0 for the first time since 1996, and Southside fans recognized it with this week’s online vote.
Remember, the online polls at gtpreps.com are strictly a fan vote. Votes cast are not automatically updated and shown , but should be able to be viewed in totals 15 minutes after being made. Multiple votes by the same user are allowed every 12 hours.
To vote in the Times’ online player and team polls each week, log on to www.gtpreps.com/polls. The polls will be posted before midnight Friday when possible or can be accessed early Saturday morning. The polls close at noon each Tuesday.
