The Gadsden City girls tennis team made history Wednesday at the Dana Loconto Tennis Complex.
The Titans, hosting the Class 6A, Section 7 tennis tournament, claimed the section title for the first time in the six-year history of the school.
Gadsden City finished the day with 46 points to claim victory. Hewitt-Trussville and Pell City tied for second with 33 points and were forced into a tiebreaker late Wednesday. The top two finishers in the sectional round earn the right to compete at the state tournament, which will begin April 25 in Mobile.
Oxford was fourth with 22 points, while Shades Valley had four points and Clay-Chalkville had two.
Individually, the Titans took section titles in four flights. Kaylee Ragan captured the win for the Titans in the No. 1 singles division, as did Hannah Murray and Johanna Hoffman in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Additionally, Ragan and Hoffman teamed up to take first in No. 1 doubles.
The Gadsden City boys will try to join their female counterparts at reaching state when they host their section tournament Thursday.
