Boaz falls to Hartselle

Second-ranked Hartselle never trailed in defeating Boaz 52-13 Friday night in the first round of the Class 5A state high school football playoffs.
Hartselle (11-0) held a 38-6 lead at the half. The Tigers posted points on drives covering 63, 50, 52, 61, 51, and 59 yards.
The first-half touchdown for Boaz (5-6) came on Tyler Martin’s 61-yard run that stood as the lone highlight for the Pirates. The PAT failed and Boaz trailed 7-6 with 6:44 to play in the first quarter.
Hartselle quarterback Jamison Aldridge ran for two scores and threw for another in the first half. His 27-yard touchdown run put the Tigers ahead 14-6 with 3:39 showing in the first quarter. Aldridge then raced 52 yards for a touchdown as the Tigers edged ahead 21-6 with 1:44 left in the opening quarter. After going 3 for 3 on point-after kicks, Williams Marsh booted a 29-yard field goal for a 24-6 Hartselle lead with 8:03 showing in the second.
Jeston Thompson, who scored the Tigers’ first touchdown on a 6-yard run, caught a 51-yard pass from Aldridge to push the lead to 31-6 with 5:32 left in the first half.
Masio Stover’s 13-yard touchdown run and another PAT by Marsh with 1:54 to go before halftime gave the Tigers their 32-point first half lead.
The Tigers came out and scored on a 12-play, 59-yard drive to go ahead 45-6 at the 4:41 mark of the third quarter. Stover scored his second touchdown of the night on a 1-yard run and Marsh kicked the PAT.
After an interception, Hartselle went ahead 52-6 on a 2-yard run by Tanner Oakes with 3:27 showing in the third quarter.
Tez Jacobs scored on a 3-yard run for Boaz’s second touchdown and the game’s final one with 4:03 to play. Leo Aragon kicked the PAT for the final margin.
Martin carried 20 times for 126 yards and the one touchdown in leading Boaz rushers.
